The Safety Technologies from Kia

Kia offers a long list of standard and available active safety features for all of its vehicles in order to provide a level of safety that is a cut above its competition. Here are some of those features.

Highway Drive Assist

Available on a number of new Kia models, Highway Drive Assist makes long highway drives more relaxing and safer by taking care of the speed of the vehicle as well as making sure it stays centred in its lane even in turns. This system combines the regular adaptive cruise control and the lane-keeping assist system into one and it uses data from the navigation system to compare with the information it detects with its camera and radar sensor in order to provide a more refined and predictable behaviour than competing systems.

Safe Exit Assist

One of the more unique safety systems available in a variety of Kia models is the Safe Exit Assist. This technology uses the same sensors as the blind spot monitoring system in order to detect vehicles approaching from the rear when occupants are trying to exit. This can prevent another vehicle from hitting the opened door and it can help protect passengers who would have exited and potentially stood in the path of the oncoming traffic. In addition, Kia models equipped with electronic child locks can prevent the rear doors from being opened when a vehicle is detected, which helps protect children.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist

Many new Kia vehicles are equipped with the Rear cross-traffic alert system in order to help prevent collisions while backing out of parking spots or driveways where visibility is limited. This system uses sensors to detect vehicles coming from either side while the transmission is in reverse. If a vehicle is detected, a warning sound is activated to alert the driver to the risk of collision. If both of the vehicles continue moving toward one another, the system will automatically apply the brakes in order to prevent the crash.
